Julian McIntyre is an Associate at Parke Lawyers practising in family law, property law and retirement living. He advises individuals, families, property owners, retirement village operators and seniors, including prospective and existing village residents.

Julian’s family law practice focuses on parenting matters, property settlements and binding financial agreements. He assists clients through negotiation, documentation and court proceedings, with advice directed to their family circumstances and financial objectives. In parenting matters, he addresses arrangements for children’s care, time with each parent and decision-making responsibilities, including safety concerns and disputed arrangements.

His financial family law work includes property settlements involving real estate, superannuation, liabilities and competing claims about contributions and future needs. He also advises on and prepares binding financial agreements before, during and after relationships, giving close attention to financial disclosure, the allocation of assets and liabilities, and the drafting needed to give effect to the parties’ intentions.

Alongside conveyancing, Julian has significant experience in adverse possession, boundary disputes, easements and other issues affecting ownership, access and the use of land. He examines titles, surveys, historical records and the parties’ dealings to assess their rights and develop a strategy for resolution. His property practice also includes leasing, development and subdivision matters, combining transactional advice with an understanding of how property disputes arise.

Julian has a strong retirement village practice, advising both operators and seniors. For operators, he advises on village arrangements, contractual obligations and disputes. For prospective and existing residents, he explains agreements, fees and exit arrangements, including deferred management fees, refurbishment obligations and the financial consequences of leaving a village. He also advises on disclosure documents, residence contracts, operational issues and disputes arising during or at the end of a resident’s occupation.

His broader practice includes aged care advice, powers of attorney and elder law, criminal and traffic matters, and estate litigation.

Julian holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Melbourne and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Leo Cussen Centre for Law. He also holds a Bachelor of Information Technology with Distinction from Deakin University, majoring in Games Design and Development.

Outside practice, Julian enjoys hiking, fitness, art and miniature painting, including participating in miniature display painting competitions.
