Verification of identification

To ensure the security and confidentiality of safe custody documents, specific requirements must be satisfied before we can release documents. This includes us being satisfied as to the identity of the person requesting the documents, through the provision of original or certified copies of identification. Acceptable identification documents include:

Current driver licence or photo card (issued by the Commonwealth, a State or Territory government);

together with:

Australian passport (must be current or expired within the preceding 2 years); or
Foreign passport (must be current); or
Full birth certificate.

A certified copy means a photocopy of your identification certified as a true and correct copy of the original, by a lawyer, medical practitioner, pharmacist, accountant, justice of the peace or police officer.

If you are collecting in person, the original primary identification should be presented. Alternatively, you can email your certified identification to us.

To collect documents on behalf of the owner of the documents

Requests for release of safe custody documents should be made by the owner of the documents. Where this is not possible (for instance, due to incapacity) additional requirements apply (as detailed in the release form).

What happens next?

Once you download and complete the document release request, print and sign the form and post it to:

The form should be accompanied by an appropriately sized, self-addressed, express post or registered post envelope for return of your documents.

The document release request can be emailed to us at law@pl.com.au but the safe custody document will not be posted until such time as we are provided with an appropriately sized, self-addressed, express post or registered post envelope for return of your documents.

We will assess your request within 5 business days from the date on this form or the date of receipt of the request and then confirm the next steps.

Once all requirements are met, the documents will be available for collection or be posted to you in the express post or registered post self-addressed envelope provided by you.
