Christmas is a special time for families and the annual Grace Park Community Carols is a free event that enables families in the Hawthorn area to get together and celebrate the joy of the festive season.
This year’s carols will be held on Sunday, December 10, starting at 5pm.
The two-hour event at Grace Park, Hilda Crescent, Hawthorn, is again being sponsored by Parke Lawyers, one of Melbourne’s leading law firms.
Parke Lawyers is again this year’s major sponsor of the event. Managing Director Jim Parke said the firm was delighted to be able to support events such as the Grace Park Community Carols as they helped make communities, like those in Melbourne’s Inner East, better places to live.
“The carols event brings families together at a special time of year. Grandparents, parents and children of all ages get together in the beautiful setting of Grace Park to join in the singing of carols and Christmas songs.
“The annual Grace Park Community Carols sets the scene for the rest of the festive season and demonstrates that Christmas is still about tradition and not just a commercial opportunity,” he said.
The event is organised by Grace Park Community Carols Incorporated, supported by the City of Boroondara and will again be led by the Boroondara Brass Band. The band, which was formed in 2000, will play a mix of traditional Christmas carols and Christmas songs, known and loved by everyone, with the audience invited to sing-a-long.
The non-denominational event will also feature a choir, several soloists and two local primary schools while Santa has promised to call in.
Families are encouraged to bring along a picnic while there will also be a sausage sizzle run by the Boroondara Brass Band with other stalls providing ice cream, coffee, refreshments and other snack items.
Mr Parke said the organisers did a tremendous job each year creating a free family event and this year more than 1000 people were expected to attend.
