The Camberwell Art Show is the premier Australian art show and this year’s 53rd edition will attract entries from more than 500 of the nation’s leading artists vying for prizes valued at $37,500, including a best in show prize of $20,000.

Its scale and quality mark it as one of the most significant in the Australian art calendar, sitting alongside the Archibald in terms of prestige.

Leading Australian boutique law firm, Parke Lawyers is again delighted to be a gold sponsor of the event, which opens on Friday, 6 July and continues until 15 July. The art show has become a centrepiece of art and culture for all Australians.

The size of the Camberwell Art Show is mind-boggling and a showcase of the tremendous talent that exists not only in Melbourne but throughout Australia.

The Camberwell Art Show is conducted by the Rotary Club of Camberwell and since 1964 the community has been the beneficiary with more than $3 million contributed to the many Rotary programs at local, regional, national and international levels.

Parke Lawyers commends what the Rotary Club of Camberwell has achieved in the more than 50 years of this show. We are pleased to be the gold sponsor of an event run by a committed group of volunteers and where all funds raised are channelled back into communities making them stronger and better places to live.

Swinburne University of Technology’s impressive steel and glass ATC Building at 441-451 Burwood Road, Hawthorn, will be transformed into a state of the art gallery to professionally showcase the paintings.

There will be a gala opening at 6.30pm on Friday, July 6, when patrons will have first choice of the art and witness the unveiling of the winning art. During the next nine days, members of the public can view the art on show and have the chance to purchase their favourite works.

Adding to the spectacle will be associated events during the show, including artist demonstrations and special nights. There will be a community event in conjunction with the Australian Food Allergy Association along with fellowship nights for local Rotary clubs and specially hosted nights by gold sponsors Parke Lawyers and Bendigo Community Bank.

Entries for the show close at midnight on Monday, June 11, and already the organising committee is reporting a tremendous level of interest.

There will be up to 2500 works submitted and a panel of judges led by respected artist and judge Julian Bruere, will select 1350 paintings to be displayed in the show.

As well as regular categories such as Best in Show, Best Non-Traditional Work, Best Traditional Work, Best Non-Traditional Work under $1500, Best Traditional Work under $1500, Best Oil under $1500, Best Work on Paper under $1500 and three judges’ special awards, new categories are Best Oil/Acrylic and Best Work on Paper.

Another new award is the Boroondara Arts Encouragement Award @ Camberwell Art Show. The Camberwell Art Show Committee in partnership with the City of Boroondara has introduced this award to encourage artists who live or have studios in the Boroondara area. It will be awarded annually to an exhibitor at the show and recognises excellence in contemporary visual art.
